Tiger-Sul FAQs

TIGER 90CR® sulphur is the industry leading degradable sulphur that contains 10% swelling agents that disperses the elemental sulphur into a range of fine particles. Independent research testing has shown TIGER 90CR® sulphur provides Season Long Availability of plant available sulphate throughout the growing season while minimizing leaching losses typically associated with water soluble sulphate fertilizers.
CR stands for “Controlled Release”. TIGER 90CR® sulphur was developed as an enhanced degradable sulphur fertilizer. Extensive research and development work by Tiger-Sul Products discovered several key formulation processes that is essential for the enhanced TIGER 90CR® sulphur formulation. Today TIGER 90CR® sulphur is recognized as the leading form of degradable sulphur on the market due to it’s enhanced degradation and superior handling characteristics.
The conversion process of TIGER 90CR® sulphur is dependent on several environmental as well as controlled factors created by the formation of TIGER 90CR® sulphur. Two key processes need to occur for efficient oxidation. First the TIGER 90CR® sulphur pastille needs to degrade into a fine particle to increase it’s surface area, and soil distribution. Secondly the conversion of TIGER 90CR® sulphur is the oxidation process where soil bacteria consume the fine sulphur particles thus producing plant available sulphate. The result is a Season Long Availability of Sulphur maximizing sulphur to the crop while minimizing leaching that is typically associated with sulphate fertilizers.
The bulk density of TIGER 90CR® sulphur is 76 lbs/ft3. Tiger-Sul Mini Prill Grade is 88 lbs/ft3. All specifications on Tiger-Sul’s products can be obtained on each product in the “Product Specifications” PDF sheet available on our web site.
Yes, TIGER 90CR® sulphur has a superior uniformity index ( >95% ), and has a SGN size of 260 SGN. TIGER 90CR® sulphur is routinely blended with other N,P,K and micronutrients.
We produce a special version of TIGER 90CR® sulphur for Organic production. TIGER 90CR Sulphur is on the OMRI list of approved products for organic crop production.
Application rates of TIGER 90CR® sulphur vary based on crop sulphur requirements and or soil amendment needs. For detailed information on application rates see our TIGER 90CR® sulphur recommendation technical bulletin, soil amendment technical information and sulphur use by crop technical bulletins.
Yes, TIGER 90CR® sulphur begins conversion soon after application. The conversion to plant available sulphate occurs throughout the growing season as long as some microbial activity begins at approximately 13oC (55oF) and gradually increases as soil temperature rises into the optimal range of 18 – 32oC (65 – 90oF). 100% of the sulphur will not be converted to sulphate. The season long availability of TIGER 90CR® sulphur is essential for optimum sulphur availability and to keep the sulphur available to the crop throughout the growing season.
Yes, When applied to soils that are deficient in sulphur, TIGER 90CR® sulphur can correct sulphur deficiencies in the year of application. A higher application rate of TIGER 90CR® sulphur is required to correct the deficiency on low sulphur soils. In cooler climates, a blend of soluble sulphate sulphur combined with TIGER 90CR® sulphur is recommended to correct sulphur deficiencies.
Yes, TIGER 90CR® sulphur is a very efficient and economical soil amendment for soils requiring amendment. TIGER 90CR® sulphur is more efficient than straight sulphuric acid as the Season Long Release amends the soil throughout the growing season. For more information on soil amending see Agronomic Technical Bulletin :  Rectify Soil Conditions with TIGER 90CR Sulphur.
TIGER 50CR® sulphur/sulphate is a combination of TIGER 90CR® sulphur and ammonium sulphate fertilizer. In cooler climates TIGER 50CR® sulphur/sulphate provides optimum sulphur availability even in early spring when soil temperatures are cool and microbial activity is slow. The late season sulphur availability is also greatly improved by the TIGER 90CR® sulphur portion of the TIGER 50CR® sulphur/sulphate blend.
The analysis of TIGER 50CR® sulphur/sulphate is 12-0-0-50. (12% Nitrogen, 50% Sulphur). Tiger 50CR Sulphur consists of 60% ammonium sulphate and 40% TIGER 90CR® sulphur.
Yes, TIGER 90CR® sulphur can be safely applied with the seed as long as normal fertilizer applications are followed. TIGER 90CR sulphur has very low salt index (3.7) and will not damage seed germination when applied at rates for plant nutrition. TIGER 50CR contains ammonium sulphate and it has a salt index of 88; therefore, caution needs to exercised when placing this product in seed furrow to avoid seed germination and seedling injury.
Tiger-Sul currently produces Granular Zinc, Manganese, Copper, and Iron formulations. All formulations are embedded into the Tiger-Sul Sulphur Matrix so the benefit of season long supply of sulphur is also provided. The sulphur content in the formulations varies by 55% – 85% in the TIGER MICRONUTRIENTS® fertilizer formulations.
TIGER MICRONUTRIENTS® fertilizer are a new micronutrient formulation that has been designed for optimum micronutrient efficiency. Many micronutrients are extremely water soluble and can leach under high rainfall and irrigation situations. TIGER MICRONUTRIENTS® fertilizers act are micronutrients embedded into our Tiger-Sul Sulphur matrix, and as a result begin to feed the plant almost immediately after application. Lab studies showed 68% of Tiger-Sul Zinc 18% converted to plant available zinc sulphate and 48% of Tiger-Sul Coppers to copper sulphate. The conversion continues throughout the growing season addressing plant needs.
A wide variety of formulations are available for specific crops and applications; however if you feel one of these will not work for you we will try to accommodate special formulations in truckload orders only. Advanced notice is required.
The product will begin breaking down almost immediately when it comes into contact with the soil, the percentage of breakdown varies according to conditions (moisture, temperature, bug population) but as a general rule TIGER MICRONUTRIENTS® fertilizer will feed throughout the growing season from spring to fall. If the micronutrient deficiency is addressed with the correct application rate and method of application crop demands will be met. For more specific information please contact your Tiger-Sul representative.
Yes, the uniformity index with TIGER MICRONUTRIENTS® fertilizer are >95% and lead the industry in quality and uniformity. The SGN size of 260 (approx. 3mm) matches most fertilizer sizes in North America. The bulk density of Tiger-Sul’s products range from 76 to 83 lbs/cubic ft, which allows compatibility and excellent spread patterns. Tiger-Sul’s products have been used extensively for over two decades throughout North America and global agricultural regions.
Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes Products consist of degradable sulphur and degradable sulphur/micronutrient turf products.
Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes are available in two SGN sizes, 260 SGN and 190 SGN. Both sizes degrade quickly once wet and turn into a fine powder.
Yes, Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes have a superior uniformity index ( >95% ), and has a SGN size of 190 SGN. Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes are routinely blended with other fertilizer products for Turf management.
Tiger-Sul Iron 22% Turf Mix in its original form is non-staining and will not stain as it needs to undergo a conversion process. When applied to concrete or other hard surfaces the iron will not break down and not stain the cement.
Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes have several key design features that other turf micronutrient products do not have. Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes are all sulphur-based and research has shown dramatic improvements in nitrogen uptake, as well as the reduction of nitrate leaching. The Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes are very low to free of any heavy metals harmful to the environment (Water tables and Humans). Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes provide a season long release of nutrients, providing improved nutrition over water soluble sources that leach out and need to be applied more frequently. The Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes will give you greener grass and shrubs throughout the growing season. For more information on Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes please view the Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes section of our web site.
Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes are manufactured in a manner that almost eliminates the dust while handling. Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes uniformity index is >95% and as a result they are stable in a blend and do not segregate. Special coatings applied to the Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes also help to minimize any small dust particles. The result is a high quality, uniform formulation.
No, as long as label applications are followed, Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes are very safe to use. The Season Long Release of Turf nutrients provides a much improved feeding program vs. water soluble forms that feed quickly but run short later in the growing season.
Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes are well suited for high pH soils as they are sulphur-based and create an acidification zone that improves nutrient uptake of phosphate and micronutrients. The acid zone also improves micronutrient availability to the plant over a longer period of time vs. other turf micronutrient products. Research on Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes has also shown a dramatic improvement on nitrogen utilization and a reduction in nitrate leaching. Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes can be used either alone or with Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes for pH management.
Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes have also been demonstrated to work well on acid soils in conjunction with a liming program. The key is the Season Long Release of nutrients that Tiger-Sul Turf Mixes provides for the plant. Sulphate forms of micronutrients run short as they leach out with watering programs.
Yes, TIGER 90CR® Turf improves soil structure by removing the sodium from the soil exchange sites. The result is an improved water penetration that improves soil aeration and nutrient availability.
